Lemon Balm Essential Oil (5%)

$35.00

100% Pure Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) essential oil, diluted in pure, cold-pressed, Omani Moringa seed oil. 5% dilution means it’s ready for topical use. Anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and calming.* Organically cultivated and steam-distilled on our Forest Farm in Marshall, NC. The aroma is a beautiful combination of lemon and soap, just like the fresh herb that grows so prolifically but yields little precious essential oil!  5 ml Euro-dropper bottle.

Description

Batch MO-003 (September 2021):

Don’t let the 5% dilution fool you, this is a very potent blend! 81 pounds of fresh Melissa officinalis made less than half an ounce of pure essential oil! The pure oil is extremely concentrated. At a 5% dilution, each 5ml bottle of the blend contains the essential oil from about 2 pounds of fresh leaves and flowers!

Melissa Lemon Balm Essential Oil Distillation

We have been growing Melissa on our Forest Farm since 2018 but have waited until 2021 to harvest in order to ensure  the perennial plants are well-established and spreading.
As with all of the plants we cultivate on our Forest Farm, this Lemon balm was grown lovingly with gravity-drip irrigated mountain spring water and organic soil amendments only (including our spent/composted distillation material). Deer are abundant and love being around our aromatic herbs (which can help reduce parasites) but fortunately they find the taste to be too strong. So they actually help us keep the “weeds” at bay while only occasionally nibbling at the herbs!

Melissa oil has numerous health benefits. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral (even treating Herpes simplex symptoms).* It is calming and is known for reducing tension and anxiety. The 5% dilution is meant for direct skin application and the unrefined Moringa peregrina carrier oil adds a moisturizing and absorption benefit.

Our Moringa seed oil is provided by Nawa Arabia in Oman (Arabian peninsula). Their primary product is an innovative and delicious coffee alternative (made from roasted “waste” Date seeds). The Moringa trees are grown without herbicides, pesticides or fungicides and the seeds are cold-pressed to extract an excellent carrier oil that has been used for thousands of years (including dynastic Egypt) for its purported health benefits and superior perfumery properties. It is low-odor, fixative (helping hold volatile essential oil compounds for absorption and slow-release) and has very long shelf-stability. Like Jojoba oil, Moringa oil is actually a wax and will solidify/congeal at cooler temperatures. So you’ll want to store your bottle at room temperature (~65+ F) but preferably not above body temperature.

A Note on Carrier Oil Blends and Aroma Diffusers

Most essential oil diffusers are not designed to work with essential oils that have been diluted in a carrier oil. While essential oils can evaporate/diffuse, carrier oils tend to leave a mess in the diffuser. A simple way to diffuse a carrier oil blend like this one, is to use your body as the diffuser; put a dab on your skin like a perfume. The diluted essential oil is both absorbed by your skin and diffused by your body heat; while the Moringa oil assists absorption, moisturizes skin and slows the rate of evaporation of the aroma.
