Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) essential oil has become a customer favorite due to its deep-green woodsy aroma with a touch of camphor. Each 5ml bottle contains the pure aromatic essence of 4lbs of fresh needles and branches! This oil is particularly nice in the bath or just drop a few drops on your shower curtain/wall for a lovely bronchial-opening steam-effect.
Note that this is not the poison hemlock that was used for Socrates’ euthanasia. That one is an unrelated species; Conium maculatum.
The Southern Appalachian Hemlocks are under severe threat from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. We will only harvest Hemlock when an un-treated tree is trimmed, fallen or cut down for reasons other than essential oil. This batch (TC-012) was made from no-spray young trees growing in the overgrown Christmas tree farm that is also our source for Fraser Fir; in Plumtree, NC.
