Batch PA-001 (November 2018):

This limited batch of Norway Spruce (Picea abies) essential oil was steam-distilled from two small trees removed from a no-spray landscape in Candler, NC. The trees were healthy and beautiful but had been planted too close to structures for their eventual size. The species is native to Northern Europe but can grow here in the Southern Appalachians as a stately landscape specimen. The batch has been aging since November in order to reach its true-to-plant aroma.

We don’t often have access to this species so this small batch is very limited. It is also very concentrated; each 5ml bottle has the aromatic essence from 3.5 lbs of fresh needles and small branches! 10% or less dilution is suggested for topical use or for a chest/beard oil that clears the respiratory system. While most people seem to like the aroma, in general, it seems to appeal more on the masculine scale. Spruce oil is reported to have hormone-mimicking properties and research suggests it can increase testosterone levels.* It is also anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and fantastic in the bath or shower; we like to drop a few drops of the pure oil on the shower curtain for an aromatherapeutic steam-shower experience. We find the pleasing earthy aroma has a comforting effect on the mood and mind.
